What this code means

ES / E5

The product is in Energy Save mode, which turns the display off when it is not being used.

ES, or E5 on some displays, is not a fault on a Maytag range. It means Energy Save is active, which is available on some models.

What Energy Save does

The feature puts the control and clock into a sleep mode that reduces power consumption by turning the display off while the product is not in use. After 5 minutes of idle with only the time of day shown, the display shows ES followed by On twice, and then goes blank. Pressing a control key such as Bake or Broil, or opening the oven door, wakes it, and the control responds to further key presses.

Turning it on or off

  1. The oven and control must be idle with the time of day on the display.
  2. Press and hold CLOCK for 10 seconds. The control beeps and shows ES followed by On twice, then returns to the time of day.
  3. To leave the mode, hold CLOCK for 10 seconds again. The display shows ES followed by Off twice.
  4. Press any key to bring back the time of day.

The Electronic Oven Controls section of the Owner’s Manual has more detail.

If ES will not clear

Turn the circuit breaker(s) off for one minute, turn them on, and monitor the oven for one minute. Verify oven operation.
