What this code means
F8 E3
Overflow condition: too much water or foam in the washer.
F8 E3 is an overflow condition. On front load Maytag washers it happens when there is too much water or foam in the washer; on top load models the water level exceeds washer capacity.
Front load: look at detergent and bleach
- Use only HE or High-Efficiency detergent, and always measure it. With very soft water you may need less.
- Non-HE detergent, or more than the manufacturer’s recommended amount, can create excess suds. That can slow the spin speed, leaving very wet loads or error codes.
- “No splash” or “easy pour” liquid chlorine bleach contains a thickening agent that may add suds. Use regular liquid bleach instead.
- After the cycle, run a “Clean Washer” cycle to remove excess detergent and build-up.
Both types: reset the power
Unplug the washer for 5 minutes, plug it back in, and monitor the code.
Related codes

- F8 E2 is a dispenser system problem.
