What this code means

F5 E2

The door is not locking properly (front load); the lid lock cannot engage, possibly due to an obstruction (top load).

F5 E2 is a locking problem. What it describes depends on whether the washer loads from the front or the top.

Front load: door not locking

The door must be completely closed for the washer to run, and it can look closed without being latched. Open it and close it firmly. Then look for laundry sticking out past the door opening, leave enough room for clothes to tumble freely, and cut the load size if needed. Maytag also says to check that nothing blocks the door.

To clear the display, Maytag’s front load list says to press Pause or Cancel twice and then the Power button once.

Top load: lid lock

The washer cannot engage the lid lock because something may be obstructing the lid lock area. Check that area and remove anything there, and make sure no clothing is in the way.

Reset the control

If it persists, unplug the washer for 5 minutes and plug it back in. Maytag compares this to restarting a computer.
