What this code means
drn
drn (F9 E1) means the washer is taking too long to drain water.
What drn tells you
A Maytag top load washer that shows drn, or F9 E1, is taking too long to drain its water. Maytag notes that this can sometimes be an installation problem.
Drain hose checks
Start with the drain hose. Make sure it is not kinked or clogged. Then check how it is installed:
- No more than 4.5 inches (114 mm) of the hose may go down into the standpipe.
- Fasten the hose firmly to the drainpipe or tub with the drain hose form, and keep tape off the drain opening.
- Keep the hose end above 36 inches from the floor; a lower end lets the washer siphon, so it fills and drains in the same moment.
Use HE detergent in the washer as well.
