L2 on a Maytag dryer signals low or no line voltage, which may be a home power supply problem.
What this code means
L2
Low or no line voltage: possible problem with the home power supply.
An L2 code (Low or No Line Voltage) tells you there may be a problem with the home power supply, which keeps the dryer’s heater from turning on. The dryer keeps running while the code is shown. Touch any pad to clear it and return to the estimated time remaining. Maytag adds that this error shows only during the initial installation.
What the manual tells you to try
- Check whether a household fuse has blown or a circuit breaker has tripped. An electric dryer uses two fuses or breakers, and the manual says both should be checked.
- Confirm the power cord is properly installed and the terminal screws are tight. Unplug the dryer before checking them.
- Cycle the power: switch the breakers off for 5 minutes, switch them on, start a timed dry cycle and watch the dryer for 5 minutes.
- Select a Timed Dry heated cycle and restart the dryer.
If the message stays, a qualified electrician should verify the electrical supply. An electric dryer needs a 240-volt supply on a separate 30-amp circuit fused on both sides.
Which dryers
This covers a standard Maytag dryer and, from its own page, a commercial dryer. On the commercial one the manual suggests turning the breaker off for 1 minute.
